Despite the defeat against Chelsea, Milan still have all the credentials to qualify for the round of 16 of the Champions League. Here are all the scenarios before the last two days.

O Milan was beaten again by Chelsea inside Champions League. At San Siro, Potter’s team won 2-0 against the Rossoneri, who had long been complaining about Tomori’s dismissal at the start. With two days to go, everything will be decided in group E with the Italian champion team that will play for the qualification for the round of 16 in the next two matches against Salzburg and Dinamo Zagreb.

Despite the second consecutive knockout against Chelsea, Milan are still masters of their destiny in the Champions League. To qualify for the knockout stage, the Rossoneri team needs two wins in the next matches, away from home against Dinamo Zagreb and at home against Salzburg. With 6 points, Pioli’s men would mathematically overtake both opponents, regardless of what Chelsea will do and would be in the second round.

Even a win and a draw in the last two games could be enough as long as Salzburg, currently in second place behind Chelsea, don’t win anymore. In case a knockout comes in the next game at Dynamo, Milan should win with Salzburg and hope that first the Austrians and then the Croatians lose to Chelsea. In this case, the Italian team would end up on equal points with Dinamo and would have to have an advantage on goal difference in direct matches to pass (Milan won 3-1 in the first leg).

At the moment, the classification of group E of the Champions League is clear, with all the verdicts still to be defined. In fact, no one is yet sure of qualification and even leaders Chelsea cannot afford to be wrong. This is the current ranking:

  1. Chelsea 7
  2. Salzburg 6
  3. Milan 4
  4. Dynamo Zagreb 4
