Radja Nainggolan he matched great. The midfielder who spent most of his career in Italy with Piacenza, Cagliari, Roma and Inter, and who currently plays at home in Antwerp, has been arrested. The reason? The “Ninja” was pulled over by police after being caught driving his car without a valid driver’s license. It is not the first time that the player has to deal with situations beyond the lines, considering that on two other occasions he has already gotten into trouble for crimes of the highway code.
The events took place a few hours ago, late in the morning in Antwerp, on the corner of Noordersingel and Schijnpoortweg. A police patrol stopped Radja Nainggolan as he was driving his own Mercedes. According to what was revealed by nieuwsblad, the football player did not have a valid driving license back from a period when, owing to a ban imposed on him, he would not have been able to get behind the wheel. Therefore, the median would have to undergo a recovery exam to return to the green light.
Wouter Bruyns, a spokesman for the Antwerp Police, said the player was already in the police’s crosshairs: “He did not take this exam, was arrested and taken to the barracks for interrogation. His car was seized. We were already tracking the fact that the person was driving even if he doesn’t have a driver’s license“. Nainggolan has had to deal with increased controls by agents, increasingly focused on ensuring compliance with current driving bans.
Nainggolan was released immediately after interrogation at the barracks and will now have to answer for this offence. For the time being, Antwerp preferred not to comment and to postpone any decisions and measures. Club spokesman Erwin Van den Sande said: “We will speak to Radja first.” A bad story, therefore, for the player who revealed to our mics that he had paid a high price for the “c**eat” during his career. A career that could have been even more important without too many tantrums.
