Fists that fill us with pride. Atlantic boxing star Angie Paola Valdés took the gold medal in women’s boxing 60kg category this Wednesday at the South American Games played in Asunción, Paraguay.
The Colombian represented the national territory with all the roles, climbing to the top of the podium after convincingly beating Uruguayan Camila Piñeiro (5-0) by unanimous decision.
Similarly, Valdés took the gold medal as a result of a perfect match in which he dominated all the rivals that put him ahead, in the quarterfinals against Brazil’s Rebeca De Lima (5-0) and in the semifinals, for the same result, for the Venezuelan Krisandv Ríos.
Ingrit Valencia was another of our national boxers who didn’t lag far behind in her fight for the gold medal. The Olympic medalist reveled in victory in the 50-kilogram final, where she defeated Brazilian Caroline Barbosa 5-0 by unanimous decision.
Valencia secured a ticket to the final fight with the same result beating Venezuelan Tayonia Cedeño in the quarterfinals and Bolivian Ayda Santalla, who was unable to finish the fight in the semifinals.
“It was a very strong preparation and here we come to ratify it. The fights were very intense and good, but thank goodness we are still victorious. This gold medal means a lot, I feel very lucky,” said the Atlantic Valdés.
