Klopp is furious, yells in the linesman’s face and challenges the referee: “Come on, give it to me!”

The Liverpool manager lost his temper in the closing minutes due to an unspoken foul on Salah. He also faces the tough referee in a very nervous finale, the lip betrays him.

Klopp’s fury first fell on the line assistant in Liverpool’s convulsive Manchester City final.

A fury. Jürgen Klopp lives intensely the final minutes of the game that the Liverpool won (1-0) against City of Manchester on Anfield Road. It is a part of the forbidden game for the faint of heart, which risks bursting coronary arteries and upsetting nerves. In the fiery climate, everyone loses and everyone is unhappy with the direction of the race: Guardiola himself will complain both about the cancellation of the Phoden network due to Var’s decision and the attitude of the Reds fans (who look at him throwing coins).

The hosts’ coach goes much further. It’s not even the first time something like this has happened to him in his career… a few years ago, when he coached Borussia Dortmund, he got carried away by adrenaline and cursed a line assistant, he was sent off and watched the rest of the match of the Champions League with Napoli in a dressing room.

In the jargon it is said that he went looking for him. Just rewind the video clip sequence to understand what happened. In Salah, a foul is committed near the sideline, but for the referees everything is regular, it is at this moment that the Liverpool manager snaps and makes an impulsive gesture. He chases after the line assistant, walks up to him and yells at him. I protest for the indulgence adopted in the evaluation of Bernardo Silva’s intervention on the Egyptian. And it does so blatantly.

“It’s the most obvious foul I’ve ever seen in front of the linesman – he will say after the match – but he doesn’t give it weight”. That moment of nervousness has a sequel. Klopp is beside himself and when referee Taylor calls him to ask, he responds with equal acerbity. There is no other choice: the referee goes to him and draws the red. At the moment when he is about to pull it out of his pocket at the back we see the German coach who seems to want to challenge him from his mouth. “Come on, give it to me! Give it to me!”. And get in the shower prematurely. Later he will acknowledge that he “deserved it” but underlining the referee’s faults.

It was a very delicate phase of the match as Liverpool tried to defend the 1-0 lead and contain the growing pressure from Manchester City. Salah was in possession of the ball and was trying to buy time, at least until Bernardo Silva intervened, which made Klopp lose his cool.
