Benfica effortlessly passed Vitória Guimarães –

Benfica digested their Champions League efforts better than Ajax. By beating the team from Amsterdam 2-2 in Lisbon, the Portuguese club defeated Vitória Guimarães 3-0 at home on Sunday evening. The score was 2-0 with goals from Goncalo Ramos and Uruguayan Darwin Núñez in the first half. Shortly after the restart, Núñez scored again from the penalty spot. Ramos’ second goal was disallowed.

As always, former Ajax player Jan Vertonghen took care of the defense of goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos. Ukrainian Roman Yaremchuk, who scored 2-2 against Ajax, was also substituted in the second half.

Benfica is in third place with 54 points after 24 competition matches. Sporting’s draw is still 4 points. League-leader FC Porto defeated Gil Vicente to 66 points.

Ajax and Benfica will face each other in Amsterdam on Tuesday, March 15.
