At 24 and with a long career ahead of him, it’s never too late to make your dreams come true. In case of Hachim Mastourformer child prodigy of European football who at the age of 14 he was snatched from Milan by Inter in a market battle that caused a sensation and was won by Adriano Galliani, the rise began this summer, when the boy born in Reggio Emilia to Moroccan parents decided with great humility to accept the offer of the Renaissance Club Athletic Zemamra, club that plays in Botola 2, the Moroccan second division.

Unemployed for a year after being released from Reggina in July 2021 with the termination of his contract a season earlier, Mastour started again from his origins, in a reality he knows well and above all made him feel immediately at the center of the project: Hachim wears the captain’s armbandclearly awarded the Team Leader Badge.

The marriage between Mastour and Renaissance Zemamra went as far as it could go: the formation of northwest Morocco is indeed first in the league, heavily pitched for promotion to the top flight. After the first 9 days of Botola 2, the team remains undefeated: yesterday’s 1-0 victory over Chabab Atlas Khenifra is the seventh, after two draws and zero defeats, and the points ahead of the second are already 7.

Mastour is once again an idol, certain of a smaller footballing community than the large audience that years ago admired his plays when he was little more than a child and envisioned a career as a star in European football. After things changed, Hachim was a little lost, both through his fault and the people around him who thought to squeeze him instead of managing his career the right way. But now Mastour’s skills, finally showcased on the pitch in a professional football context, drew the transfer market spotlight to him again.

According to what they write in Morocco, the 24-year-old would have ended up in the crosshairs of Raja Casablanca, one of the most successful teams in the local top flight. Club president Aziz El Badraoui would be following the story personally to strengthen Raja, who is currently fourth in the Botola 1 Pro. The final word on the transfer will rest with coach Mondher Kebaier. Mastour could therefore soon return to the fields of a top league: another step towards regaining what Hachim wants more than anything else, playing football at the highest level.
