Ounas one day realized that everything was wrong: “My wife told me to wake up”

The Algerian winger has never been able to find the right size in blue. Last summer he was sold to Lille and is now looking back on his choice to accept Napoli with regret. He had another offer, but he declined.

Adan Ounas left Napoli last summer, sold to Lille.

Twenty-five minutes played per game, very few from the start. In three years of Naples the score of Adam Ounas explains well the discomfort of the player who accepted the transfer of the bordeaux to Serie A convinced that it was the opportunity of his career. In blue the coaches have changed, but since Sarri for Spalletti he never managed to find a dimension, ending up borrowing every two years too nice, Cagliari AND Crotone until he returned to France from Lille which he landed on the last day of the summer market session.

As they say in the lingo, coaches never saw enough of him. The former Girondino was also (is) good but, despite good technique and good moves, he always left the impression of being evanescent. A shiny tinsel, it shimmers and a bit dazzles from a distance, so you see it up close, follow it better, and it feels like a Kvaratskhelia (albeit across the field) that failed.

The Algerian's last Serie A presence dates back to Naples-Monza, at the end of August he left the club.

“I should have stayed in Bordeaux or gone to Rome, I was wrong”, the Algerian winger confessed to the transalpine media during the match against Rennes. He reflects on the choice he made at the time and now wonders what would have happened if he had heard the foreboding his wife had whispered to him.

He didn’t want to hear it and when he saw himself sent to Calabria as a package to be resolved, he felt the full weight of an impromptu decision, he realized that in the end Napoli never believed him. “In January 2021 I was sent to Crotone. I saw the city, the players, the level of the team and understood how things really were… In Crotone my wife asked me to wake up”.

Rightly, it would have been better to think about it, it would have been better to say yes to that Rome that had marked her name in her notebook because Salah he would go away and he needed a football player who had similar characteristics to the Egyptian.

His departure was a year late: the orders arrived at Napoli’s table and every time for Ounas it was like seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. And when the club made it known that to sell it would have required a high sum (more than 20 million euros), all hope was lost. marseille AND Milan they had spotted him, but faced with the sums budgeted by the Neapolitans they remained cold.

“Looking at it, it would have been better not to sign with Napoli – added Ounas -. I would have stayed another year in Bordeaux or I would have accepted Roma’s offer. In the capital they wanted me in place of Salah, who was sold to Liverpool”. However, his farewell message to the Campania club seemed to have a very different tone: “I am proud to have worn this jersey. These were incredible years, which I will always carry with me.”

Regret and bitterness are very strong, he reiterates in another equally effective sentence when he talks about his experience in the blue. “Career choices are important, I made a bad choice and Crotone opened my eyes. My family and I are happy to be back in France.”
