The captain must always lead by example. For this Kristof D’HaeneBelgian national team leader and icon Kortrijk he decided to put his face to a terrible time for his team. What happened after the defeat against Oostende went around the world and is a punch in the stomach.

The hard setback against a direct competitor, infuriated the visiting fans worried about the progress of a team that has collected the tenth defeat in sixteen games and is navigating the slums of the classification. Discontent and anger on the part of the curve that challenged the entire formation of Kortrijk. D’Haene after the final whistle summoned his teammates and made them welcome to go under the sector reserved for its fans.

A way to show that you are aware of the bad moment, willing to take the deserved boos. Unfortunately, however, things degenerated, because the fans did not limit themselves to the dispute, but went in person. D’Haene, who had invited the entire team not to suddenly return to the locker room, approached the hottest zone of the ultras and undertook a long conciliation.

The tones were turned on, and here the captain literally enraged started a fight with some representatives of the fans. Shortly afterwards, however, he was taken away and, as he walked away to the dressing room, he began to cry. A bad scene for this icon from Kortrijk who then told Sporza what happened: “One person said certain things and it went too far. I fully understand the fans’ frustrations, but there was no need to tell me certain things. I wanted to go to them with the whole team. But they started to scold us, you should always have respect.”

Great bitterness for the red-black captain, who did not expect to hear offensive phrases even in the face of what he has given the team he has played for since 2015 in his career: ” My heart hurts too, because the team is everything to me. These tears? Everything had to go.”
