The 2022 of Jannik sinner it was a very special year. Because the South Tyrolean tennis player reached the quarter-finals ten times, three even in the Grand Slam events, but he had an impressive number of injuries that hampered and limited him in this year that ends with the withdrawal to the Final Eight of Davis Cup🇧🇷 A heavy blow to Jannik and to Captain Volandri’s Italy.

The ankle problem suffered in Sofia practically took Sinner out of the fight in the finals, who returned to play and after the Vienna tournament ended 2022 at ATP level with the knockout of Bercy. He wasn’t at the top, you can see, he was trying to recover for the Davis Cup, scheduled from 21st to 27th of November, but was forced to fold due to a hand problem. A big problem for Italy, but above all for Jannik, who looked willing to take the field at Davis and then pull out of the Australian tournaments in early 2023.

On Twitter he wrote: “I am very sad to announce that I will not be able to participate in the Davis Cup final. I have an injured finger in Paris. I’m still not cured and that’s why I won’t be able to be part of our team”.

The official announcement certifies the waiver. Sinner will try to recover at this point for the tournaments that will be held in January, he will have over a month and a half to physically establish himself.

For Volandri there is one more problem. Meanwhile, he was summoned Lorenzo Sonego, a player of absolute value who was a starter in the Finals a year ago. But it’s always in doubt Matteo Berrettini who ended 2022 on a personal level with the injury suffered in the final of the ATP 250 tournament in Naples.

His possible resignation would cause big problems for Italy, which can still count on Lorenzo Musetti, who ended the season with great progress, and on Bolelli/Fognini a more than reliable one-two. Italy in the round of 16 is called to a level commitment against United States by Taylor Fritz, who will play the finals in Turin.
