Cycling mourns legendary Italian cyclist Ercole Baldini, who died today aged 89. “The train of Forlì”, as it is nicknamed, was in fact one of the great protagonists of Italian cycling between the 1950s and 1960s and is included in the Hall of Fame of the Giro d’Italia. In his few years as a professional cyclist Bandini accumulated prestigious titles and victories both on the road and on the track: he won the hour record, a Grand Prix des Nations (current World Time Trial Championship), an Italian track championship, two road, a track world championship, a road world championship, an Olympic road title (in 1956) and a Giro d’Italia (in 1958).
