Swansea City’s next league away game against Coventry City was thrown into doubt after the Sky Blues issued a statement confirming they had received a holiday notice for their ground.
Frasers Group, owned by former Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley, bought Coventry’s home CBS Arena two weeks ago after the holding company filed for management.
And on Monday, the BBC reported that the Frasers say the Sky Blues have no right to continue using the land unless a new license is agreed. The club’s existing license runs until 2031, but they say the new proposal will expire in May 2023.

Ashley’s group believes it is not bound by the previous licence, as agreed with the stadium’s former owners, Wasps rugby club, which went into administration in October.
This now puts Coventry’s next home game in doubt as Russell Martin’s Swansea are the next team to face the West Midlands club, and the Championship club have released a statement to confirm that previous reports of relegation were true.
A statement from Coventry said: “Coventry City can confirm media reports that it received an eviction notice from Frasers Group, the new owners of Coventry Building Society Arena, on Friday afternoon.
“After the Frasers Group bought the stadium from the Trustees, Coventry City were informed that we had to agree a new license to play at the Arena.
“We were surprised to learn of Frasers Group’s intention as discussions with Coventry City prior to completing the purchase of the Arena made it clear that the existing terms would remain unchanged with Frasers Group as the new owners of the Arena.
“Coventry City Football Club has a long-term license to play at the Arena, which was agreed in March 2021 and runs until 2031.
“Frasers Group has presented Coventry City with a new agreement with new commercial terms which have been presented to us without any dialogue or negotiation and are less beneficial to the football club. Also, this license will only be valid until May 2023.
“Frasers Group has said it will negotiate beyond May 2023, but that leaves us without the security and certainty our current deal offers us and our fans.
“To confirm, Coventry City are happy to continue playing at the Arena under the current license we already have.
“Following the acquisition of the Arena by Frasers Group, one of Coventry’s great assets, they said they ‘look forward to working with Coventry City Football Club’.
“Coventry City is looking forward to delivering on these promises for the good of the Arena, the football club, our fans, the city and the community they are now a part of.
“Coventry City anticipated that they would be able to deal with this situation internally, but following media reports this morning, we will continue to keep fans informed of the situation going forward and look forward to continuing to welcome our fans to our home at the Coventry Building Society Arena. ”.
If they can host another game there then it will of course mean a lot to both Swansea and Swans supporters.
The Swans welcome Norwich City to Swansea.com Stadium this weekend before heading to the Midlands on December 17th when they hope the situation is fully resolved.
