Even the basketball world wanted to stop in honor of Sinisa Mihajlovic, paying him a final, respectful and heartfelt homage. The former Serbian midfielder and coach who died this afternoon at the age of 53 due to myeloid leukemia left a huge void not only in the world of football but in the whole sport. So, Bologna and Belgrade in unison wanted to celebrate it just before entering the parquet for the respective Euroleague basketball matches.

Scary moments, broadcast live on TV at the same time, that stopped time for 60 seconds. In Bologna’s parquet, as well as in Belgrade’s Palazzettowhere Virtus and Partizan would start their respective games in Efes and Maccabi for the 14th round of the Euroleague, a minute of silence and condolences was observed, broken by applause from the public who celebrated Mihajlovic one last time.

There Arena Segafredo, home of Virtus, honored the Serbian coach with a minute of silence interrupted by emotional applause from the crowd. In a last act of total affection, with the fans who also displayed a banner that consecrated the special bond with Mihajlovic: “The city you fought for will never be forgotten… Hello Sinisa!”

Almost simultaneously, some 900 kilometers away, an equally evocative and moving scene was unfolding in another city. “symbol” to Sinisa Mihajlovic, Belgrade, the capital of his Serbia, who today remembered him in all the main media.
