This directorate of the anti-mafia district, DIA, with its acronym in Italian, asked for a prison sentence of four years and ten months Armando Izo, Monza player and Italy international, for involvement in the dispute and for two episodes of sports cheating according to local media.
The facts of the double sporting cheating of the player, who was born in Scampia, in the district of Naples, dates back to his time with the Hazelnut between 2011 and 2014, when he began his sports career in Serie C and Serie B before rising to the top league of Italian football with Genoa, Turin and now Monza; he was international three times with the Italian absolute.
Specifically, the investigations focus on two Avellino matches that would have been played in the 2013/2014 season, manipulated with the help of Izzo.
The sports fraud was set up and controlled by the Accurso brothers of the Vanella Grassi clan, affiliated with the Camorra, Naples’ criminal mafia organization.
The investigation into sports fraud began in 2016, but it was not until early Thursday morning that the DIA demanded the fines.
The Italian Football Federation punished the player in 2017 with a six-month suspension and a fine of 30,000 euros for the same case.
The 30-year-old Izzo wore the shirt of Genoa for four seasons, until 2018, that of Turin in four more campaigns, since this summer at Monza, on loan from the police, albeit with a purchase obligation in case of redemption.
