Schulting dominates the 500m on a World Cup day full of drops

Suzanne Schulting has won her fifth individual World Cup gold in Almaty this season. It was over 500 meters on Saturday.

Yara van Kerkhof earned the bronze medal thanks to the fall of Selma Poutsma, who was a steady second but stumbled and fell to the board.

It was a private race because there were at least three Dutch women at the start. Schulting, Poutsma and Van Kerkhof.

With his victory, Schulting consolidated his first place in the World Cup overall standings, which includes results from all individual distances. He took over the leadership from his compatriot Xandra Velzeboer last weekend.

many falls

Schulting shone on a bearish day. The 21-year-old Velzeboer got back on the ice after an illness, but with a bit of luck. He retired early after a collision in the final over 1,500 meters.

As noted, Poutsma fell in the 500m final. And Kay Huisman fell in the final in the mixed teams relay.

Van Kerkhof fell in the semi-finals of the women’s relay, meaning the Dutch team would not compete in Sunday’s final.

The Dutch player won two places in the final today, but failed to claim an individual medal of honor. Friso Emons, a 1,500m fan, faced off against three very strong Koreans and fell well outside the medals, finishing in sixth place.

Itzhak de Laat also finished fourth with a bronze medal in the 500 meters.
