World Cup gold medalist for Kim in 500m, Stolz raises junior world record

Kim Jun-ho surprisingly won the 500 meters at the World Cup competitions in Calgary. The 27-year-old South Korean athlete beat Jordan Stolz and Laurent Dubreuil, who had won the 500 meters in the previous two World Cups, with a time of 34.07.

Stolz was as happy with his silver as he was happy with his gold medal. The only 18-year-old American surprised both friend and foe with wins over the 1,000 and 1,500 meters in the first World Cup competitions of the season. A podium in the 500m wasn’t possible in Calgary until this Saturday.

He lost not only 0.1 seconds against the winner Kim and improved his personal best of 34.08, but also broke the junior world record. The old record, which was also in his name, was 34.11.

Ntab fastest dutch

Dai Dai Ntab has won the World Cup gold medal in the shortest distance sprint four times in his career. But his last win dates back to 2021. He hasn’t shown his best form yet this season, but he has shown that he is still a force to be reckoned with in Calgary.

It opened under 9.7 seconds for the first time in two seasons. Ntab maintained this pace and finished eighth with 34.41 seconds to become the best Dutchman.

Merijn Scheperkamp has appeared on the 500m World Cup podium this season, but was unsuccessful in the race against eventual winner Kim. He set his personal record at 34.43. He finally finished tenth.

Janno Botman also broke his personal record. He finished seventeenth with 34.64.

10km pass favorite

Now it’s time for long-distance specialists who exceed 10 kilometers. The biggest favorite for this distance is Patrick Roest, who has won all races over 5 and 10 kilometers so far this World Cup season.

Beau Snellink and Kars Jansman are also the other Dutchmen who will serve the longest distance in Calgary.
