And that’s four for Jutta Leerdam. Leerdam also won the 1,000m at its fourth World Cup weekend this winter. Stavanger was another hit in Canada on Sunday after Thialf and Calgary. 12/1/53 brought gold to Miho Takagi (13/1/19) and Kimi Goetz (13/1/58).
Leerdam’s win was just as convincing as it was last week when it was seventeenth from number two. Now their difference was sixteenth. Leerdam, 23, was unbeaten for kilometers. This is Leerdam’s fifth kilometer win in the World Cup competition, with only Marianne Timmer (10 times) getting more gold.
It was an almost familiar journey from Leerdam. Opened with 17.7. Then finish first full lap at 26.2 and under 1.13. Leerdam went far beyond his direct rival Isabel Grevelt (1.14.47) and was subsequently surprised at how easy it was.
“I have no idea what happened, it wasn’t even a good ride, but my base is fine,” Leerdam stammered after the race. He then had to sit down immediately because he was already pushing himself pretty hard.

Antoinette Rijpma-De Jong also made an attempt to reveal black spots. His personal record of 1:13:61 was 0.03 too slow for bronze. He managed to catch up with Olympic champion Takagi, who won a silver medal in his driving but was again defeated by Leerdam.
Number five of the day Kazakh Yekaterina Aydova with a time of 1:13:74 created excitement on the fifth stage, followed by Michelle de Jong and Marrit Fledderus. After the first full loop of 26.86, De Jong showed he was up to something and finished eighth in 1:14.35. Fledderus was twelfth with 1.15.04.
Isabel Grevelt, who surprisingly won a bronze medal in her first Group A match at Thialf and lived out her dream of skating in Calgary, now surpasses her personal record with a time of 1:14.47.
Tandem Schouten-Groenewoud won
The weekend of the Women’s World Cup held in Calgary ended with a mass start. And with Dutch success. Irene Schouten has won the gold medal for the third time this winter. Silver went to Canadian Ivanie Blondin and bronze to Marijke Groenewoud.
