What the new Ferrari F1 2023 will look like: what we know about Leclerc and Sainz’s single-seaters

The first important rumors about what the Ferrari with which Leclerc and Sainz will race in the 2023 Formula 1 World Championship will look like: more reliable and more powerful engine and aerodynamic innovations to compete with Red Bull and Mercedes.

There are still two months left for the tests that will effectively open the season 2023 in Formula 1 he is in home Ferrari handover between outgoing Mattia Binotto and new team principal Frederic Vasseur has yet to take place, but the Maranello factory continues to work tirelessly on the new car with which Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz will attempt a new assault on the world titles of Max Verstappen and Red Bull and will also compete with Mercedes. And the first filter from the Cavallino headquarters rumors about the car at the time named with the project initials 675 which will be officially presented before the first pre-season tests that will take place in Bahrain from 23 to 25 February.

What will the new Ferrari look like?

The new Ferrari F1 car for the 2023 World Championship will not be completely different from the 2022 F1-75, but rather an evolution of the latter🇧🇷 But there will be some important news both in aerodynamic level with regard to mechanical part which, in the intentions of the engineering team at Cavallino, must at the same time solve problems that last year’s car suffered (especially with regard to reliability and drag resistance) and also improve performance (as far as possible, given the engine freeze mode where Formula 1 is currently located).

How aerodynamics will be improved

At first glance, the new single-seater made available by Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz for 2023 should not differ much from the F1-75 given that the concept and design should remain largely faithful, however those of the car used last season. The main aerodynamic innovations in fact, they should focus mainly on the parts above and around the bottom but also substantial changes in the so-called “coke zone”, in the lower part of the chassis and in the area where the deposit will be placed.

The shape of the sidepods will remain the same as the F1-75 with the concave profile at the top with the large grilles to allow for heat dissipation and the deep nip at the rear. The beginning of the “coke zone” (the area just ahead of the rear wheels) instead it will be more advanced than that of the 2022 machine with the body that in the last part will be replaced by horizontal openings which should extend all the way to the rear suspension (effectively echoing what was seen on the Red Bull RB18 after updates). This change would aim to simplify airflow duct system🇧🇷

Compared to the F1-75, the 2023 Ferrari will feature aerodynamic innovations that will simplify the airflow channeling system to the rear.

And always decrease the drag the new Ferrari F1 2023 should have a lower profile on the sides compared to that of the F1-75, therefore, create some kind of channel enjoying the “double bottom” principle (and also in this case the men from Maranello seem to have been inspired by the Red Bull with which Verstappen won the title in 2022). While the placement and way the engine will be fitted shouldn’t differ from last year’s car, the same cannot be said for the bottom of the frame🇧🇷 the area around the fuel tank and the position of the gearbox which, as far as is known, they must differ significantly🇧🇷

It was only possible to intervene on the engine to solve the reliability problems, but despite this it seems that this also allowed Maranello to increase the performance of the new engine.

Ferrari’s new engine for the 2023 World Championship

There are also important innovations regarding the engine of the new Ferrari for the 2023 Formula 1 World Championshipdespite the development blockade. Working to overcome the reliability problems presented by the F1-75 engine (the only reason why it is possible to make structural modifications to the engine), in fact, Cavallino engineers would have found the solution with a new fuel injection system which will allow the new engine to always be used with more thrust mapping. This novelty, in addition to make it more reliablewould allow the new engine of the Ferrari F1 2023 be able to release about 30 horses more than its predecessorat least according to what is currently filtering out of Maranello after many hours spent on the test stands.
