Rayo Vallecano loses with Falcao at home to Real Sociedad

Real Sociedad beat Rayo, who had Colombian Radamel Falcao García in the second half, in a game they dominated from the first half with goals from Norwegian Alexander Sorloth and Ander Barrenetxea and added three very valuable points to tie them in the standings with Real Madrid, second in the table.

The Basque team, after eight consecutive victories and qualified for the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey, arrived in Vallecas launched in terms of results, but with some concern about the high number of casualties with which they appeared at the Madrid Colosseum.

Two pieces fell from the magic diamond formed by Martín Zubimendi, Mikel Merino, Brais Méndez and David Silva, Zubimendi due to suspension and Merino due to injury. Imanol Alguacil instead decided to bet on Asier Illarramendi and the young Pablo Marín, who perfectly adapted to the tactical plan and performed at a high level.

Rayo came onto the field with great enthusiasm and dedication, although he hardly created any danger except with the arrivals of the wingers of Isi Palazón and Álvaro García, but it was Real Sociedad who hit the mark on their first arrival.

After fourteen minutes, David Silva recovered a ball from Rayo’s throw-in, started the run-up to the penalty area and assisted Fran García’s back so that Alexander Sorloth finished low before Stole Dimitrievski’s exit.

From that goal, Real Sociedad imposed its hierarchy and dominated the game against Rayo’s impotence, who prevented so much order from developing his usual vertical play with speed on the wings looking for Sergio Camello, very inept throughout the first half.

Before the break, Real Sociedad extended their lead on the scoreboard. He did it after a corner on the left that extended Aritz Elustondo at the near post and at the second pushed Barrenetxea all alone for a goal.

In the second half, Rayo stepped forward and his tactics allowed him to gain yards and multiply his approaches to Alex Remiro’s goal, who saved his team with a very good save two minutes after the restart on a header from Santi Comesaña, who came onto the pitch at half-time.

Soon after, it was Álvaro García who found a ball in the Real Sociedad area and his shot crashed into Illarramendi’s face to the dismay of the Vallecano fans, who helplessly verified how their team was unable to harm the Basque team.

Pablo Marín, after an individual action that ended with a shot that forced Dimitrievski to stretch, was able to condemn the clash for Real, who went on to celebrate their ninth consecutive win of the season, allowing them to remain unstoppable and focus also settled in the noble zone of the classification.
