It could be the end of a great legacy. Colombia woke up on the morning of this Monday to the news that national cyclist Nairo Quintana could announce his absolute retirement from the world of cycling in the coming days.
The rumors suddenly surfaced and various Colombian media have already announced that the Boyacá runner is thinking about the direction he will give to his professional future.
The panelists of the program ‘Ciclismo en grande’ were the first to secure the news on their YouTube channel. Something that was later confirmed by journalist Jairo Chávez, also a member of the channel, who stated on RCN Radio that a source close to the cyclist’s entourage had told him that retirement was indeed possible.
Nairo, who is coming off a fine entry in the most recent Tour de France with team Arkea Samsic, would move away from the pedals due to the impossibility of finding a place in top-level cycling.
El Tiempo has learned that Quintana has prepared a press conference for next Wednesday, starting at 9:30 am, where the cyclist would announce what awaits him in the near future. For his part, Nairo’s father, Luis Quintana, also pointed out in an interview with the same medium that the question of a possible retirement within the family has not been touched.
Nairo Quintana was penalized in the most recent Tour de France for carrying the substance tramadol in two blood samples taken during the race. Which has provoked a lot of criticism and restricted him from continuing to show his best form in European cycling.
