“I hadn’t thought about the title until now”: Djokovic

The Serbian Novak Djokovic (4) admitted in the press conference after his overwhelming victory over the local Alex De Minaur (22) in the eighth finals of the Australian Open that he had not thought about the title until tonight.

“A week ago I had not thought about the title, only arriving in good shape for the next game. I felt positive about it tonight,” he added, after matching Australians Jack Crawford and Adrian Quist with 13 appearances in the Australian Grand Slam quarterfinals.

“It was the best game of the season. I am very happy to handle this situation in this way, given that the games are getting more and more complicated. My body has responded and I have moved very well,” said Djokovic, who complained repeatedly during his previous two games and sought medical attention to treat his left thigh problems.

“Being the only surviving player in the draw with Grand Slam titles flatters me, but it doesn’t change anything. Tsitsipas, for example, is the most experienced of them all and seems ready. It is getting closer,” he assured about the Greek, with whom he would only meet in the final.

Djokovic will face fifth-seeded Russian Andrei Rublev in the quarterfinals and the winner will face the winner of the clash between Americans Tommy Paul and Ben Shelton in the semifinals.

On the other side of the draw, Tsitsipas, third favourite, will play Czech Jiri Lehecka. From there comes a semi-finalist who sees who wins in the match between the Russian Karen Khachanov and the American Sebastian Korda.
