Balls and Letters | Junior, a reason for being and existing

A new competition is coming for the Junior from Barranquilla and, behind the Barranquilla team, the illusion of the people who continue to relive the ever-present dream of winning another star. That it is not championships for Juniorism, but
stars worn on the shield representing each achievement, each chapter of a story on its way to 100 years old.

And again I wonder if the Junior, more than a team, is a reason and a way to identify and be accepted through a badge and a shirt.

Whether Junior is a reason to feel that something is alive, to feel that something matters, to learn that life is a lottery, a carousel, a racket where there is laughter and crying and nothing is absolute.

Whether Junior is precisely that reason to have something of his own, that is not the goal but the journey of living, of being, of feeling, of participating, of interaction.

All this because I am convinced that Junior, more than the team itself, is the way to have, to belong, to recognize that there are human beings who are integrated by a shield, a shirt, an achievement, a game, an appointment Sunday to Sunday, who sing in unison in favor of the goal, who cry the same tears by the falls, who feel the same joy, who feel the same pain, which is the same hug, which is the collective laughter perpetuated in a goal that unites and brings together the worlds of everyone with their triumphs and frustrations.

Junior, more than the team, is the reason to have, to belong, to feel integrated in that society of football fans where the same life is lived as yours or mine, with all its pros and cons, but that it is left at the entrance of the stadium, which is like everyone’s grounding pole and becomes the balm for ailments and sorrows.

For the rojiblancos fans, Junior is the reason to feel triumphant with the runaway goal-cry in the stands, to feel that everyone’s embrace is a combination of happiness, which is felt and heard in all
shades, with tears of happiness and not of pain.

This week the league starts and another illusion will haunt the heart of juniorism with real reasons for the formation of the team. It will be the same excuse to go back to the stadium, to meet that friend next door, to show off
the red and white shirt and to feel that life is worth living in those ninety minutes…
