FC Twente sells to Ajax a resounding ‘no’ for Hilgers: ‘No questions now’

Ron Jans has rejected a winter transfer from Mees Hilgers to Ajax. The FC Twente coach is keen to keep his team together, hoping to stay at the top of the Eredivisie as long as possible.

Ajax are looking for reinforcements in the backcourt due to Daley Blind’s departure to Bayern Munich and Ahmetcan Kaplan’s injury. After a failed deal with Olympique Marseille for Leandro Baleri, the team from Amsterdam ended up in Hilgers.

Hilgers is not allowed to go

Jans doesn’t see Hilgers leave. The 21-year-old defender is an important addition to the current success of Tukker, who finished in a surprising third place after half an Eredivisie season.

“There’s no doubt about it,” Jans said of a winter change from Hilgers. “Mees is an interesting player but we don’t want to let the players go that way.”

At the start of the transfer window this winter, Twente Feyenoord also sold ‘no’. The Rotterdam team wanted to beat Ramiz Zerrouki but he was also stopped by Twente.

Sadílek is back in shape

Jans took back midfielder Michal Sadílek in Wednesday evening’s away game against Vitesse. Czech suffered a groin injury and missed his home match against FC Utrecht last weekend.

The match to be played with Vitesse will start tomorrow at 18.45 in Gelredome. Earlier this season FC Twente were too strong for Vitesse at Enschede and won 3-0.
