Botman wins League Cup semi-finals in game one with Newcastle, match winner Joelinton

Newcastle United have taken the first step towards the League Cup final. Coach Eddie Howe’s team won 1-0 in their first semi-final match at Southampton. Back to England’s second cup tournament in a week.

Dutch defender Sven Botman was present throughout the match in Newcastle. With 15 minutes to go, Brazilian Joelinton scored the only goal of the match.

Shortly before the finish, Duje Caleta-Car had to leave the field. The Croatian has received his second yellow card.

The victory beckons Newcastle, which has not won a grand prize since 1955, a final at Wembley. In 1976 The Magpies were a losing finalist. Southampton, who are in the last place of the Premier League, were finalists in 1979 and 2017.

Nottingham Forest and Manchester United will meet for the first time on Wednesday evening in the other semi-final match of the League Cup.
