Russia condemns UEFA’s decision to move the Kazan Super Cup to Athens

The Russian Football Federation (UFR) today condemned UEFA’s decision to move the European Super Cup from the Russian city of Kazan to Athens.

“The decision to move the Kazan Super Cup in the context of the exclusion of our clubs and national teams from international competitions was expected and has nothing to do with sports,” UFR told the newspaper “Sport-Express”.

The UFR emphasizes that the Tatar capital has “enormous experience” in hosting international tournaments at the highest level, also “from a security point of view”.

“At the moment we are focusing our efforts on the return of Russian football to the system of international competitions,” he added.

As reported by UEFA, the European Super Cup between the winners of the “Champions” and the UEFA Europa League will be played on August 16 at Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium in the Greek capital.

Due to the Russian military campaign in Ukraine, UEFA already moved the Champions League final from Saint Petersburg to Paris last year.
