In 2024, the qualification for the Eurocup and the World Cup will have 12 groups of 4 and 5 teams

The League of Nations has a new knockout round from 2024 to be played in March and the qualifying phase for the Eurocup or the World Cup will have 12 groups of four or five teams, depending on the change in the format of the competitions approved by the Executive Committee of uefa.

UEFA on Wednesday announced these minor changes, which will not increase the number of matches, approved after an extensive consultation process with the national federations, to “offer more attractive and exciting competitions within the existing dates, as well as to save the resources of national federations and concerns for a constant recovery from the impact of the pandemic”.

The body explained that these changes will not change the number of matches and will be adapted to the international calendar and will not change the number of participants in the final stage of the Eurocup that will keep the 24 teams.

For UEFA, “an important new knockout round of the Nations League combined with a more compact format of the European qualifiers results in more attractive knockouts without increasing the total number of matches.”
