Swansea have said they are “fed up” with “disgusting” racist abuse on social media directed at Michael Obafemi following his loan move to Burnley.

The 22-year-old, who has scored 15 goals in 52 games for Swansea, has joined Vincent Kompany’s side until the end of the season with a view to a permanent transfer.

Swansea says it has reported the offensive posts to South Wales Police.

In a statement, the Welsh club said: “Swansea City are aware of the disgusting racist abuse that has been published on social media in relation to Michael Obafemi’s loan to Burnley. The club regrets the foul language used in the offensive messages and is working to identify those responsible. and take appropriate action. The matter has been reported to South Wales Police who are investigating. There is no place for racism or any kind of discrimination in society or in football.”
