Al Ahly wins the World Cup club teams opening match, with Messi and Ronaldo on the list, El Shahat

The Club World Cup held in Morocco kicked off Wednesday night with the match between Egypt’s Al Ahly team and New Zealand’s Auckland City. Al Ahly won 3-0 and advanced to the quarterfinals.

Before the match, a light, fireworks and aerobatic opening show was held at the Ibn Batouta Stadium in Tangier.

Ronaldo, Messi and Bale

Hussein El Shahat scored the first goal of the tournament. The Egyptian player put Al Ahly ahead with a long-range effort just before halftime. He landed in a private company with this shot.

He has currently scored in three different World Cups for club teams. Only Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Gareth Bale have done this before. Al Shahat scored for Al Ain in the 2018 edition and for Al Ahly in 2020 and 2023.

After 10 minutes, Al Shahat’s teammate Mohamed Sherif made the score 2-0. Shortly before the finish, South African Percy Tau finished the party with a 3-0 victory for the Egyptian team.

Deep in the downtime, Adam Mitchell of Auckland was sent off by Chinese referee Ma Ning, but no more goals were scored.

Real Madrid and Flamengo

Al Ahly will face the USA’s Seattle Sounders in the Quarterfinals. Real Madrid and Flamengo only reached the semi-finals on 7 and 8 February. Real then plays against the winner of the match between Al Ahly and the Seattle Sounders, facing Flamengo, Wydad or Al-Hilal.

The final will be played on Saturday, February 11th.
