Caribbean Series: Mexico defeats the Dominican Republic 5-4 with Colombian power

This Thursday, Mexican Cañeros de Mochis defeated Dominican Tigres del Licey 5-4 in the first game they both played in the Caribbean Series 2023, in Caracas, to start the Aztecs ahead in the quest for the Latin American crown they never got

The Dominicans, the team that has won the Series most often, dominated almost the entire game, thanks to doubles by Webster Rivas and Mel Rojas Jr. who batted in the first three runs in the second inning.

For its part, the Sinaloa team gradually secured its victory, which began to be intertwined with a fly ball hit to left field by Justin Emmanuel Dean, which served to score the first goal, and with a solo home run by Reynaldo Rodríguez in the seventh part.

Arriving in the eighth, the Mexicans trailed 2–4 until, again, Reynaldo Rodríguez blasted the ball into center field to drive in a run, followed by a double from Irving López that reached for Rodríguez and Roberto Valenzuela to come home.

The Glorioso del Licey now waits for the Agricultores de Bayamo until next Friday, when the two teams play their second game of the tournament, in which Cuba is victorious after their game against Curaçao.

The Dutch will be the rivals of the Cañeros, who will try to extend their lead over the rookie team in the league.
