Cuba loses to Puerto Rico and is eliminated in the Caribbean Series

The Mayagüez Indians left the Bayamo Farmers on the field on Tuesday in a dramatic ninth inning that saw Puerto Rico take the win and leave Cuba without an opportunity to advance to the semifinals of the Caribbean Series.

The Cubans dominated the entire game, thanks to Carlos Benítez and Yordanys Alarcón, who drove in the first two runs in the second inning, when Alexquemer Sánchez drove in the third run on a sacrifice ball, lifted up through center field.

Then, the Puerto Ricans made up for their deficit on the scoreboard with the power of Roberto Enríquez -who tripled- and Bryan Torres -with a single-, leaving the score at 3-2 at the end of the fifth inning.

The game passed with no major news until the Jacks got nervous when they had only one out to claim the win.

In that ninth inning, as Puerto Rico was close to batting, pitcher Andy Vargas walked Brian Navarreto, Bryan Torres reached second on an error in the diamond and Brett Rodríguez stepped to home plate to make the score final.

In the end, one hit from Enmanuel Rivera was enough for Jeremy Rivera to race to victory from third place.

With this result, Puerto Rico is fighting for a place in the semi-finals and is counting on three victories so far, as many as Colombia, Venezuela and the Dominican Republic.

To decide his fate, he will have to face Mexico, which only leads the board, on Wednesday, on the last day.

Cuba, for its part, was eliminated from the tournament, to which it returned after a three-year absence and so far with only one win on its record, awaiting its last game against Panama tomorrow.
