PSV will not surprise Emmen again and will continue to transform

PSV reached the last eight of the cup tournament without any problems. On the brand new pitch in their Philips stadium, the cup winners beat FC Emmen 3-1 in the round of 16, which again came as no surprise to Eindhoven.

Emmen had traveled to Eindhoven with almost full wartime strength. Coach Dick Lukkien may not have had many injured players, but he did take a few doubts into account. In terms of competition, of course, where the residents of Drenthe are slowly seeing the specter of impending relegation.

It’s a stunt similar to when Emmen missed a costly 1-0 league defeat at home two weeks ago for championship hopes, so PSV was unexpected and even 20-year-old Jarrad Branthwaite seemed to be completely derailed after beating the Eindhoveners 2. 15 minutes is set to -0.

The English defender managed to head Joey Veerman’s free kick unhindered and soon saw a tapped slider disappear in the corner.

With this early lead in favor of the favourite, the pain was instantly out of the conflict, not bad for PSV. After all, the continuation of the Europa League is expected with the away match against Sevilla next week.

Just before the timeout, Emmen’s goalkeeper Mickey van der Hart hit a close-range shot from Ibrahim Sangaré, who failed to stop Mark Diemers as he was freed just after the timeout and then smacked the ‘Cup keeper’ hard. Joël Drommel by PSV failed unluckily: 2:1.

The goal immediately gave the guests the courage and hope they needed for more than a dishonorable withdrawal from the cup tournament against the ten-time cup winner, which allowed for a lot of carelessness in the second half.

But Emmen can no longer really pose a threat to PSV. Eredivisie No. 16 was eliminated 15 minutes before the goal of Luuk de Jong, who went scoreless in seven games.

Home fans welcomed the return of Olivier Boscagli with the win. The French defender celebrated his return from an injury that had kept him on the sidelines for ten months in the 85th minute.
