Vaqueros meets Leones in the semifinals of the Caribbean Series

The Leones del Caracas, from Venezuela, on Wednesday defeated the Vaqueros de Montería, from Colombia, 7-4 on the seventh day of the Caribbean Series, with both teams, in second and third place in the ranking, clinching a spot in the semifinals along with Mexico and the Dominican Republic.

Venezuela took the lead in the second inning with a single and a double by Francisco Arcia and Alí Castillo that drove in three runs.

The Colombian team scored its first run with a flyout into left field by Fabián Petruz.

In the third inning, the Lions added two more runs on a walk by Carlos Rivero and a miss to shortstop by Orlando García.

Francisco Acuña’s single in the fifth inning brought in another run for the Vaqueros de Montería, who tried to get closer in the sixth inning with a line double into left field by Pabel Manzanero that batted in two runs.

Venezuela added two runs in the ninth inning of the game on a grounded single into left field by José Gregorio Rondón that sealed the victory.

After this result, the Venezuelan team will advance to the semifinals of the Caribbean Series along with Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Colombia.

The Indios de Mayagüez, from Puerto Rico, retired from the international tournament with a record of four wins and three losses, despite their daytime victory against Mexico, finishing fifth.

Next Thursday, the two matches of the semi-finals will be played in which Venezuela and Colombia will meet again and Mexico will take on the Dominican Republic.

The teams that win on Thursday will advance to the final to be held in Caracas on Friday.
