Dominican Republic defeated Mexico to play in the final of the Caribbean Series

The Tigres de Licey from the Dominican Republic have reached the final of the Caribbean Series by beating the Cañeros de Mochis from Mexico 8-3 in the semi-final of the tournament, which was played on Thursday.

The Dominicans opened the score in the first inning with a sacrifice fly into leftfield by Mel Rojas, which brought in the team’s first run.

In the second inning, a single through center field by Gustavo Núñez added another line, and in the fourth inning, the lead for the Dominicans was increased with a double and a single by Emilio Bonifavio and Henry Urrutia that brought in three runs.

Mexican Cañeros neared the scoreboard with two runs, on a single to centerfield by Julián Ornelas and a sac-fly by Jasson Atondo.

But in the seventh inning, the Dominicans showed their dominance with a home run by Kelvin Gutiérrez to left field that brought in two more runs.

A sacrifice fly to left field by Julián Ornelas gave the Mexicans another run, but not enough to get closer.

As early as the last inning, the Licey Tigers added the final streak after Webster Rivas advanced to first base for a selection play, allowing Mel Rojas to advance and score.

The Dominican Republic will play the final of the Caribbean Series against a rival who will come out of the game between Venezuela and Colombia, while Mexico will have one final clash to determine third and fourth place.

The last game of the tournament is this Friday at the Monumental Simón Bolívar stadium in Caracas.
