Rashford and Garnacho put Manchester United in second place

A Marcus Rashford header in the latter part of the game, along with a goal from Argentina’s Alejandro Garnacho, prevented Manchester United’s second successive draw against Leeds to put the ‘Red Devils’ in second place behind Arsenal.

United were close to another puncture, with a dismal game against Leeds that the ‘Whites’ could have taken away without some proper interventions from David de Gea. The game was decided by United’s incombustible talent at the top of the table, who took three points in two blows, one from Rashford and one from Garnacho, to briefly put him second in the Premier League.

Erik Ten Hag’s men were not having a good time at Elland Road for 80 minutes and De Gea was in charge in his 400th game in United’s history to keep the team in the game. First with a save from Patrick Bamford at the near post, whose rebound sent Summerville skyrocketing, and later, in the second half, with another save from Illescas from a low shot from Summerville himself.

The one who was in danger at United was Bruno Fernandez, who made it 0-1 with two shots from outside the box and a heads-up knockout by Meslier. He was also brushed by Diogo Dalot, an unexpected attacker, who smashed a ball against the crossbar.

Without United feeling comfortable, a Rashford in a state of grace saved the furniture. Luke Shaw found him with a measured cross and the England striker headed into the side.

The goal completely shattered Leeds, who were left unprotected, which Garnacho took advantage of to score his first goal since November. Fred recovered in the middle of the field, Rashford gave it to the Argentinian and he ran to the area to define the near post with a lot of class.

In the closing stages, the referee still had time to disallow a goal against Rashford for offside and a goal against Wout Weghorst also for an illegal position.

The win leaves United 46 points behind in second place, five behind Arsenal, but with two games remaining, and waiting for Manchester City to face Aston Villa next Sunday.

Leeds are not coming out of dangerous positions and are seventeenth, with 19 units, one above relegation.
