A River Plate fan died this Sunday after falling from a bus transporting fans to Monumental Stadium, where the Millionaire faced Argentinos Juniors, official sources confirmed to EFE.
The event took place around 5 p.m. local time (8 p.m. GMT), when two buses carrying River fans made their way along the Pan-American highway to the Argentine capital.
“While two buses with fans were moving, a fan fell off the running board of the first and the second bus ran over him. This man died,” sources from the Ministry of Security of Buenos Aires Province told EFE.
Later, during the match between River and Argentinos, another fan of the local team fainted when he tried to move from one stand to another in the stadium, for which he was rushed to hospital, according to local media.
The death of the River fan took place just two hours before the start of the game, including a tribute to the world champions who passed the club, including Franco Armani (current guard of the “Millionaire”), Pablo Aimar and Roberto Ayala , members of the team that won the third World Cup in Argentina in Qatar 2022.
The game between River Plate and Argentinos Juniors, which corresponds to the third matchday of the Argentine league, ended with a 2-1 victory for the local team, who turned around Kevin Mac Allister’s initial goal with goals from Miguel Borja and Ezequiel Barco , both from the penalty spot. EFE
