The Premier League’s Board of Referees (PGMOL, for its acronym in English) has replaced John Brooks, who was to become the VAR referee for the Liverpool-Everton and Arsenal-Manchester City matches, over the mistake he made at Crystal Palace-Brighton & Hove Albion.
Brooks, the PGMOL confirms, made an error of judgment by misplaying the lines and signaling offside on a goal from Ecuadorian Pervis Estupiñan that would have meant 0-1 for Brighton.
The PGMOL have responded to the error by replacing the referee for these two matches and putting Andre Marriner in place for the Anfield game and David Coote for Arsenal-Manchester City.
That mistake was one of two mistakes made last weekend, when a Brentford goal against Arsenal that should have been disallowed for offside was also confirmed.
