A delighted Sabri Lamouchi praised his players and free-kick taker Perry Ng after Cardiff City ended their 14-match winless run at Birmingham City.
The Bluebirds were the better team all night, but it took until the final 10 minutes to score their two goals courtesy of Ng and Callum Robinson.
It was Ng’s goal that made headlines, a 20-yard strike that left John Ruddy stretched and helpless. The joyous celebrations away from home after Robinson saddled him were also long in coming.

“It’s amazing. I’m so happy for the fans and especially for the players,” Lamouchi told WalesOnline.
“We changed a lot of things, the players, the system, but I think they deserve to win. What a victory! What a game What a game they are. The players came off the bench and also made a difference.
“But I liked the fighting spirit. I liked the mentality today. And what a goal by Ng!
“I told them we need a goal. We need a win to pick us up and energize us. I’m happy for them and I’m happy for that. Because they didn’t deserve to be in this. They lost confidence.” And what we are doing in training, with quality, I have a good squad.
“Like I said before, we just need to play with more confidence, it’s not easy. But I know it’s not easy when the last victory was in mid-November. They deserve to enjoy with the fans and be happy in the game locker room, locker room.
But tomorrow we have Reading to think about and Friday night at home with our fans. I’m really happy about it.
“West Brom was seriously injured here three days ago. They joined the plan. It was an absolutely fantastic performance by everyone.”
Ng’s goal deservedly made headlines, although the quality of Robinson’s goal should not be overlooked.
However, Lamouchy revealed that Ng had been working on a standard setup in training on Monday and the Frenchman was stunned by the quality of the ball the defender was playing.
“Yesterday we worked on it,” added Lamouchi. “Surprised me!
“Someone said I got the job two weeks ago and maybe I didn’t know all the players. Now I know everyone. Two weeks is enough to find out.
“Everyone knows me very well. They know what I demand of them. I’m really happy for them.”
City return home to Reading on Friday night.
