Wales rugby players are eyeing a devastating blow ahead of their upcoming Six Nations match against England.
A member of the current Wales squad has revealed he is taking anti-depressants amid concerns that Welsh rugby has stopped offering new contracts to players, leaving dozens of stars in limbo.
Shocking reports from unnamed Welsh players reports the Daily Mail, highlighting the dire situation facing the Welsh game, as the WRU and four regions have yet to endorse a new funding deal that will lift the freeze and ease players’ fears about their future. Welsh rugby sources have confirmed to WalesOnline the seriousness of the situation, first reported in the Mail on Tuesday night.
A meeting between the Welsh Rugby Union and the players is scheduled for this week to discuss matters relating to some of the players, including potential strikes.

WalesOnline reported in September that several players supported the possibility of an attack amidst the riots and that anger appears to have reached a critical point.
Under the new deal, wages in Welsh rugby will fall in coming seasons, with the highest base salary a player can earn at £280,000 per season. That’s significantly less than the £400,000 currently earned by some top stars.
An unnamed current Wales player, who has played in both of Wales’ Six Nations games so far, told the Daily Mail: “I can’t believe I have five months left on my contract and eight months until the World Cup. my future is not yet defined
“I can’t apply for a mortgage and I’m on antidepressants. I also have a serious injury as I won’t be working in July but I start for Wales every week and the WRU make tens of millions from matches.
The Welsh Test player, who now resides in England, added: “I never want to go back and play for Wales. I feel sorry for the Welsh camp boys. They are constantly on edge, discussing the contract issue. WRU is in their blood. if one of the boys gets hurt.
Another said: “I have a contract next year, but that’s enough. I want to leave now. I’ve never seen it this bad. All the uncertainty is not worth just playing for Wales.
And another anonymous player added: “I am happy to retire in a few years. it’s chaos. Lunatics run the madhouse.

The news comes as both Cardiff and Scarlets insist their players are unlikely to sign contracts before the end of the month, despite Welsh Rugby Union caretaker boss Nigel Walker claiming otherwise.
Cardiff and Wales center Willisi Halalolo spoke on Tuesday night to highlight the effect this is having.
“Must be nice to know you can still support your kids in four months,” she tweeted.
Walker, who replaced Steve Phillips as interim CEO, recently expressed confidence that all contracts will be completed by the end of February.
“Basic terms were signed weeks ago and we are working on a long-term agreement,” Walker said. BBC ScrumV on Sunday night.
“Last Tuesday, all regions received the green light to start contract negotiations. We expect it to be finalized by the end of February, when all the contracts will be signed.”
All four regions have a number of players out of contract and if clubs in England, France and Japan come full circle, the consequences of failing to reach an agreement would be catastrophic.
“It’s unrealistic from where I’m sitting right now, no,” Scarlets coach Dwayne Peele said when he learned of Walker’s comments.
“That can change easily because the situation changes quickly. Obviously we are talking to the players we want to keep, but without documents there are no contracts.
“It’s obviously frustrating for everyone, and the sooner it’s resolved, the sooner we can plan for next season for regions, players, and staff.
“People forget that it’s not just a player problem, it’s a personnel problem. Hopefully things will sort themselves out quickly in the coming weeks.
“From my point of view, the players were fantastic.
“I can’t speak highly enough about what they’re doing in training and the environment, considering what they have to worry about with contracts and stuff, but performance-wise it’s been really good.”
Cardiff Rugby director Dai Young also confirmed that the club is not yet in a position to offer new contracts.
“We’re all getting a little tired of saying ‘next week, next week’. It certainly can’t be too far away,” Young said.
“But in Cardiff I cannot speak for other regions, we are not in a position to sit down with any player. I don’t have a confirmed quote that I can see to talk about. sacked the players.”
