Manchester City dealt a heavy blow to Arsenal in the English title fight. The reigning national champion won 3-1 when the opponent, who now has to share the lead with City, visited. Arsenal still have one game on their hands.
City was joined in the saddle by Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu in the middle of the first half on their way to vital victory. The Japanese played a very short back pass, which Kevin de Bruyne took advantage of. Still, running the ball over goalie Aaron Ramsdale with a twenty-yard touch on goal was no child’s play.
Penalty to Arsenal
Arsenal’s equalizer also needed some help as referee Anthony Taylor handed out Bukayo Saka’s penalty after a clash between goalkeeper Ederson and Eddie Nketiah.
Still City could have gone with a lead at halftime, but that set the bar a bit too low, as claimed by Nathan Aké, who barely noticed the Rodri header.
City’s 2-1 came as Jack Grealish fired in the 72nd minute after a soft attack that saw Pep Guardiola’s side find space in Arsenal’s defense like a rugby team using short passes from right to left.
A good attack came from the middle of the defense before Erling Haaland’s 3-1 victory. England top played well with Haaland’s 26th league goal of the season.
