Russian Mazepin can continue to drive under a neutral flag in Formula 1

The FIA met after the International Olympic Committee called for Russian athletes to be banned from international competition because of the war in Ukraine. Russian pilots may continue to compete in international competitions, but not as Russians. The Motorsport Federation has concluded that Russian or Belarusian teams will not be admitted to Formula 1 and other FIA racing classes.

Mazepin is the only Russian driver in the first racing class for drivers. His father, Dmitri Mazepin, owns the Russian fertilizer company Uralkali, one of the largest sponsors of the Mazepin team Haas. After Russia invaded Ukraine, the team decided to remove the Uralkali text from the cars. Haas could cut ties with the company entirely.

Earlier, the FIA had already decided not to hold the Russian Grand Prix in Sochi this year.
