Two days after Erik ten Hag won the League Cup with Manchester United, England’s eyes are already on other – even more prestigious – cup tournaments: the FA Cup. United’s compatriots Manchester City beat Bristol City 3-0 on Tuesday night to advance to the quarterfinals.
Although this club is in the midst of England’s second division title, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has been cautious ahead of time. After all, Bristol City hadn’t lost a game since December.
“It’s a good team in my eyes,” Guardiola said the day before the cup meeting.
Foden unlocks the score
Even though the Spain coach made a few changes to their regular roster, the Ashton Gate stadium was still more than just a representative roster. Nathan Aké, for example, retained his starting spot, and Kevin De Bruyne, who was still sick last weekend, was featured again.
Belgian superstar De Bruyne formed the basis for the opening goal, which came just seven minutes later. He blocked Riyad Mahrez, who held the overview and gave Phil Foden a close range goal-scoring opportunity.
Almost no worries
The early goal allowed City to largely control the game from now on. Premier League no.
Shortly after, the visiting team finished the match. Foden scored again after assists by Aké and Julián Álvarez, and then De Bruyne shot from long range to make the score 3-0.
Alongside Manchester City, Brighton, Blackburn Rovers and Fulham also advanced to the quarter-finals. Manchester United take action on Wednesday night. Ten Hag’s side will face West Ham United at Old Trafford.
