Tallon Greek Track failed to perform a stunt against world number one Novak Djokovic. In the second round of the Dubai ATP tournament, they lost 6-2, 6-3 to the best Serbian tennis player who had a special week.
Djokovic led the world rankings for 378 weeks: he overtook the record on Monday from Steffi Graf, who was number one for a total of 377 weeks in the 1980s and 1990s.
Botic van de Zandschulp reached the quarterfinals today in Dubai.
amazing turns
The Greek has only lost three times in sixteen matches this year, partly due to his title in the ATP tournament in Pune and his semi-finals in Rotterdam. He didn’t get a chance to show his good form against Djokovic, the Serbian was the boss on all fronts.
Greek Track had met Djokovic before. This was at the US Open 2021 and he had no chance.
In the opening set, Djokovic only lost one point on his own serve and two points on his second serve. Although the Greek circuit played well, the 22-time Grand Slam winner was sometimes in no condition to make some spectacular turns and passes.
Djokovic won seven games in a row and won the second set 5-0. Game four passed fourteen times over the first and was again for Djokovic. The Greek circuit then cleared two match points, revived for a while but failed to push the Serb back 5-3.
After the match, Djokovic said he was pleased with his high level against Greece compared to the first-round match against Tomáš Macháč of the Czech Republic on Monday. Djokovic later won only after a tiebreak in the third set.
Djokovic also praised his Greek track opponent: “He has a lot of firepower, a good serve and a good forehand. Tried to redirect the game. I did a good job because he is one of the players that has risen the most in the rankings lately.” The new generation is coming, but I am not afraid,” he concluded.
