A rugby league match descended into chaos when Widnes Vikings player Patrick A Wang hit one of the greatest hits he has ever seen.
The video reappeared on social media, on the Instagram account sky rugby stating that it is by far the most popular rugby video on Instagram. The page also claims to have over 300 million views of the incident on its social channels.
The kick was scored in a game between Widnes and Wakefield Wildcats. Wakefield’s Ashley Gibson had the ball in his hands and decided to drive straight down the right wing despite outside support.
Unfortunately, Gibson ended up in the Channel A Van and was hit with incredible force, causing a cacophony of “Oooh’s” from the crowd. The Vikings man tackled Gibson to the ground and appeared to lift him above the horizontal.
A sea of white Wakefield took over the stage, with Ah Wan taking center stage. A violent scuffle broke out between the players, when the culprit fell to the ground. Ah Wan was a sin to help Gibson leave the field “in a trance”. The Sydney Morning Herald writes about it. The fight was cut from the video on Instagram.
When Ah Wan returned to the field, he was picked up by Wildcats hooker Scott Moore in what appeared to be a response to what happened before. Another massive fight ensued, with everyone in the mix and both opposing players shuffling through the deck amidst the chaos.
Wakefield won the game 18-16, with three players blocked and two sent off.
Winger Ah Van has been suspended for five games for a “dangerous shot”. Moore of the Wildcats, who got revenge, was suspended for two games. Gibson suffered severe damage to his shoulder and biceps and was ruled out for four months, requiring surgery to repair.
For some viewers, it was the first time they had seen this monster crash.
“The biggest hit,” said one.
“His shoulder came off after that,” said another.
