Jimmy Char Navas, former president of the Fedebéisbol and general manager of the Colombian team that will participate in the 2023 World Classic, complained about the current national government’s lack of support for Creole baseball.
Char Navas assured that support has been zero for seven months in training programs, the professional tournament and in the international participation of the country’s teams.
“We have not had any support from the new government. There has been no support. Neither in the U-23 World Cup, nor in the Professional League, in which they contributed 1,500 million pesos (with the previous government), nor for the Caribbean Series,” said Char Navas.
The sports director hopes that things will improve with the appointment of Astrid Rodríguez as the new Minister of Sports, replacing María Isabel Urrutia.
“The outgoing minister never wanted to help, she got caught up, she was late, she didn’t sign, everything depended on her signature. He has not signed the agreement for the participation of the Colombia U-23 team. We had to borrow the 300 million pesos to go to Taiwan. We hope that the new minister will come up with a different support philosophy so that we can finish the year with a good score (in the world rankings) and maintain our participation in the Premier 12 (World Confederation tournament with the first 12 teams in the rankings). We are in 11th place, we can keep it if we participate in the world and pre-world championships,” he stressed.
