Nike, the company that sponsors the star of the Memphis Grizzlies Ja Morant, assured this Saturday that it appreciates that the player has taken “responsibility” and has decided to take the time to think after posting a video on his social networks in which he carried a weapon in one hand in a nightclub.
“We appreciate Ja taking responsibility and taking the time to get the support she needs. We support your decision to prioritize your well-being,” Nike said in a note published by US media.
Nike expressed its support for Ja Morant, a player with whom it launched a special line of basketball shoes last Christmas.
Morant, who at 23 is one of the brightest young talents in the NBA, thus became the twenty-third player in American league history to own his own shoe line.
The player posted a live video to Instagram at dawn this Saturday showing him shirtless and gun in hand in a nightclub following his team’s defeat to the Denver Nuggets.
“I take full responsibility for my actions last night. I apologize to my family, teammates, coaches, fans, employees, the city of Memphis and the entire franchise,” Morant wrote in a note after his team suspended him for at least two games.
“I’m going to take some time to get help and work on better ways to handle stress and my overall well-being,” she added.
Morant, leader of the second-ranked Grizzlies in the Western Conference, will miss games against the Los Angeles Clippers and Los Angeles Lakers, both in California.
“The Grizzlies are reporting that Ja Morant will not be with the team for at least the next two games,” the Memphis team wrote in a statement after learning what happened.
