Bad news: Neymar will miss the rest of the season at PSG

Brazil international Neymar, the Paris Saint-Germain striker, will miss the remainder of this season as he needs surgery to correct his right ankle problems, which will require a recovery period of three to four months.

The decision, according to the club, was made after the footballer suffered another sprain on February 20, after which medical staff recommended that he undergo surgery to prevent his injuries from recurring.

With the intervention that will be carried out at the ASPETAR Hospital in Doha, Neymar is trying to imagine a new horizon in which the part of the body that has caused him the most setbacks during his career can better bear the strain of matches and contact . with rivals.

The most recent of these injuries came as a result of a spectacular sprain during a league game against Lille, forcing him to leave the pitch on a stretcher. But it is enough to go back to the month of November to find a similar situation.

The scenario was more mediatable on that occasion as Neymar was forced to withdraw from the opening group stage match of the final stage of the World Cup against Serbia. He was then diagnosed with a lateral ligament injury in his right ankle with minor bone edema that forced him to miss the two immediately following matches against Switzerland and Cameroon.

Before that setback, the former Barcelona player was out for up to 358 days with injuries to both ankles. A total of 14 different throughout his career; the previous one on November 28, 2021, when he was out for two and a half months, missing twelve games with his team.

He also suffered a sprain from December 13, 2020 to January 12, 2021; another month out of competition. In the summer of 2019, he was out for a total of three months, also due to a sprain, an injury he suffered after being out for four months, between January and April, due to another sprain in that area.

Since 2013, when he landed at Barcelona, a large proportion of his injuries have stemmed from the ankle and he has rarely been out for less than a week.

Considering his long absence and with the ensuing summer break, Neymar will now be in no rush to return to constant competition. He is therefore temporarily leaving, after he has played a total of 29 official matches with the Parisian team this season, in which he scored 18 goals.
