Pele’s supposed daughter will have reserved an inheritance until the kinship is verified

A woman claiming to be the daughter of late former Brazilian footballer Edson Arantes do Nascimento “Pelé” will have her portion of the estate reserved until the relationship is verified, the family’s lawyer reported Saturday.

“The part that would be allocated to her, given the possibility that she is an heir, will necessarily be reserved,” lawyer Augusto Miglioli, who represents three of the six children of the legendary footballer, said in an interview with the G1 portal of the Globo network. .

In his will, Pelé himself, who died of cancer at the age of 82 on December 29, admitted the possibility of being the father of Maria do Socorro Azevedo, of whom no further details are available.

Last year, the woman started a paternity recognition process before Sao Paulo State Public Defender and the Regional Court even notified Pelé, but the deterioration of his health prevented a genetic test.

However, Pelé included Maria do Socorro in the will and the test to verify her relationship will be performed with Pelé’s other children.

In case the paternity result is negative, the lawyer explains, this reserve will be divided among the other heirs.

“What there is is a legal expectation and if it is confirmed, she will in effect become an heir,” Edson Cholbi Nascimento ‘Edinho’ lawyer Kely and Jennifer Nascimento said.

Edinho, who is a football coach and goalkeeper for Santos, was appointed by the family as executor in the property division process, with Pelé leaving 30% to his widow, businesswoman Márcia Aoki, and the remainder to their children and two grandchildren.

The distribution of Pelé’s fortune is being kept secret from the judiciary, but according to the American business magazine Forbes, the remaining assets could amount to $ 15 million, although local media say the figure may be even higher.

Pelé was also married to Rosimeri Cholbi, with whom he had three children (Edinho, Jennifer and Kely) and Assiria Nascimento, mother of twins (Joshua and Celeste).

Flávia Nascimento is another daughter from an extra-marital relationship and the list of heirs is completed with Otavio and Gabriel Felinto, their grandchildren and sons of Sandra Regina, who was recognized by justice as Pelé’s daughter and died of cancer in 2006.

Pelé also awarded part of the fortune to his sister Maria Lúcia, who takes care of her 100-year-old mother Celeste Arantes in the city of Santos.
