Michael van Gerwen had his sights set on a quartet with four consecutive Premier League darts wins. At Nottingham, however, he was stuck in the semi-finals after Chris Dobey’s ‘palliation’: 0-6. Van Gerwen has never started with so many points in Premier League history.
A loss that deeply affected Mighty Mike. Already in the first match, he was broken by the Englishman, who recorded a finish of 114.
Dobey then ran including 94 shots and finished 103 in the sixth and final leg. Van Gerwen stood to the side and watched.
He easily defeated Peter Wright (6-1) a round earlier, making it Van Gerwen’s tenth consecutive Premier League win.
Meanwhile, things went wrong for the first time against Dobey. Van Gerwen lost in the first round at Belfast 5:6 to Dobey, who lost in his first match of the next four rounds.
Nottingham, on the other hand, was in good spirits as Dobey knocked out world champion Michael Smith (6-4) despite taking an almost 5-0 lead early in the evening.
In the final fight, Dobey faced Gerwyn Price. Galli won 4-6, this time taking the short end of the stick.
Darts players meet in Newcastle next week. There will be a match in Ahoy Rotterdam on 20 April.
