Dylan van Baarle will not start the Tour of Flanders. The Jumbo Visma rider is still in pain from his crash at last week’s E3 Saxo Classic.
After the fall, 30-year-old Van Baarle suffered from problems with his knees, hips and shoulders, among others. Tim van Dijke is his successor.
Last year, while working at the British cycling formation Ineos, he finished second in the Dutch “Vlaanderens Mooiste”.
Leader
Van Baarle should have been one of Jumbo-Visma’s trump cards for Sunday’s Tour of Flanders alongside Belgian leader Wout van Aert.
In February, Van Baarle won the Omloop het Nieuwsblad, the traditional opening of the Flemish cycling season.
“It’s a loss for the team. It’s embarrassing for us,” said Van Aert, reacting to the loss of his teammate. “We know how strong he is. We will try to digest it.”
