Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner defeated Spanish world number 1 Carlos Alcaraz at the Masters tournament in Miami to reach the final. After a 3-hour game, world number 11 won in three sets: 6-7(4) 6-4 6-2. The somewhat surprising loss for Alcaraz means it may forget to double down on Sunshine at the prestigious Indian Wells and Miami tournaments.
In Sunday’s final, Sinner faces Russian Daniil Medvedev, who defeated compatriot Karen Chatsjanov in the other semi-final.
keep breaking up
It was a match where both players found a breaking point. Sinner has managed to keep love away from Alcaraz at least six times, twice in each of the three sets played.
Alcaraz initially managed to fend off the Italian pretty well and won the first set after a tie-break, but world No. 1 found it increasingly difficult. In the second set, he finally had to bow after another break from Sinner. The Italian ended Alcaraz’s 21-set unbeaten streak.
The 19-year-old Spaniard looked tired in act three and took two more breaks, after which Sinner was able to raise his fists in victory.
