FIG stands for the return of Russian and Belarusian gymnasts

Morinari Watanabe, the president International Gymnastics Federation (FIG)was shown this Thursday for the return of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions, claiming that “Sport does not depend on politics” according to the statement.

Watanabe visited Ukraine at an unscheduled visit to the funeral of the legendary rhythmic gymnastics coach Albina Deriugina and took the opportunity to meet in Kyiv with the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andrey Ermakand with the Minister of Sports of Ukraine, Vadim Gutsit.

From there he stated that supports the position of Ukraine from the political side conflict initiated by Russia, but recalled that “sport is independent of politics.”

FIG pointed out that the recommendations issued International Olympic Committee (IOC), March 28, 2023, for return of Russian and Belarusian athletes in neutral and under strict conditions will be discussed at the next meeting FIG Executive Committee in Turkey on 12 and 13 May.
